Pre-Yangon Marathon 2013

Found a copy of Lonely Planet in the office and couldn't be more excited to be flipping pages. I knew I would see Burma and indeed I did.

To be frank, I have no idea what Burma or Yangon is like. All I know is that it is the first marathon and I would be making history to be joining the very first Yangon marathon. Like my visit to China and Bali, I cannot tell a place without having to visit it personally. Experience says, wherever I travel, people I met and culture I experienced were marvellous.

My answer? I'm not just visiting Burma, I run Burma. Kiss the earth.

The Last Week of Training Run

Distance: 10km
Pace: 6"/km
Time: 10:52 pm to midnight
Running buddy: My brother

This is the final week of training.

Dressed up in my runner's gear, I decided that I should skip the run today. I was excited to be shopping and packing up for Yangon.

I got home at 9 pm after running chores around town. Guilt seeped in for not running. Found my brother at home about to leave.

Dee: I wish I could go for a run.

At 10:40 pm, bro turned up at my door.

Bro: Let's go.

Dee: You serious??

12 midnight, we completed a 65 minute run.

Thank you for an awesome brother! ♥

The TGIF Run

Each run is a test of endurance. Heavy rain, strong wind, too hot, some dinners and something would just pop up to make you want to stop running. And if you wonder what's trying to stop me from a run today?

Curry.

Each step I took, felt like chilli doing somersaults in my tummy. The burning sensation made me wanna stop but I managed 10km. So just don't eat curry if you plan to run.

BUT something will pop up again tomorrow because life is like a box of chocolate.

Just don't give in and keep moving.

I could run the same place a hundred times and it will never look the same. Here is one spectacular sunset. I love Penang. :)

The Office Dinner Run

This was a day when I had to attend an office dinner. I was heavy hearted to sacrifice my one hour run as I could only afford 30 mins' run. The office dinner was held at 6.30pm. Heck, better than no runs at all.
The best part was I managed to complete 5.4km in 30 minutes. Hurray!

A Run with My Bro

Happy to have my ex-colleague texting me, "Hey, I'm running at Straits Quay now."

I rushed to the scene and found that he finished his 5km routine. Hungry, I fed myself a piece of bread from the pastry shop. Off I ran for an hour.

When I started it was drizzling. That shall not water down my spirit. Turned out the drizzle stop. Let's call that, mind games.

It's quite hard to believe that I've only done 8.4km in one hour. Really have no idea if the Nike GPS app is accurate. This is a day I feel my distance being short-changed.

A Torn-Between-Work-&-Run Run

Due to security reasons, I shifted my runs to Straits Quay but where location is convenient, the closest to me is the Teluk Bahang dam.

There was an event happening in the office this evening. Again, had to rush off for a run and came back to shower in the office.

Again, better to run short than not at all.

Just do it.

The Beginning of a Streak

With the Yangon Marathon on this 27 January 2013, I was told to train up for the big day. One-hour run from Tuesday to Saturday and a 2 to 3 hours of running on Sundays.

I was consistent for a week and then stopped the whole of last week. What a shame! Of course, I have my truthful and honest excuses. Drove down to IKEA to pick up furniture. Too exhausted on Sunday.

Oh well, shall start to a consistent week! 10.4km achieved.
